There’s a new Pony headed your way. The sixth-generation Ford Mustang emerged in 2015 with an all new design; the 2018 model has stepped it up a notch, or two, or three. It looks good at any angle, and that’s a fact. A bold new exterior is mated with an ultra-cool new interior featuring high tech gadgets, gizmos, and oh yeah, the 5.0 V8 under the newly vented hood.
The new Ford Mustang offers more upgraded standards than you can shake a stick at and is totally drive-out ready as it is. It’s gonna turn some heads, no doubt about it. But you have the choice of making it uniquely yours with all the available options and package upgrades. Lucky you.
Moving into 2018, Ford discontinued the V6 engine, leaving the fastback and convertible with the following two engines: the EcoBoost turbocharged 2.3 liter I 4, and the 5.0L Coyote V8. At the time of this article, there are no specs on the new range of horsepower or torque, but you can bet both engines will be getting a boost in both areas. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard with an available 10-speed SelectShift automatic with paddle shifters and a remote start system.
If you opt for the V-8 manual transmission, it comes with a twin-disc clutch and dual-mass flywheel. This comes in handy if you are ever confronted by a small, vicious animal so you can take off like a bat out of hell and leave your little friend choking in the dust. Additionally, the V-8 gets a new fuel-delivery system with port and direct injection along with a quad-pipe exhaust that offers an optional variable exhaust system that keeps things at a quiet growl at low idle but screams like a badass when you stand on it.
If you opt for the GT Performance Package it will include the magnetorheological adaptive damping system. This was previously only available on the Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT 250R. There will be eight available packages to choose from and numerous available features that will let you tweak your 'Stang to your heart’s content. New bold and rich colors like Orange Fury Metallic Tri- Coat, Kona Blue, Shadow Black, and Ingot Silver (to name a few) will make you stand out from the crowd and prove once and for all you are all show and all go.
Safety features are added to the 2018 Ford Mustang making it one of the safest high-performance vehicles on the road in its class. A Ford-First exclusive includes a Pedestrian Detection System with night-vision (also included on the 2018 Ford F-150) that keeps you safe behind the wheel and alerts you to walkers on the road. A bumper-mounted radar and windshield camera make this possible. (It’s a definite must for Sheriff Rick.)
You will find cool vents on the new hood that now sits lower over the front fascia and grilles. Standard LED headlights give it an almost dastardly and somewhat intimidating look if you are viewing it from the rearview mirror. The rear also features a new trio of LED tail lights on either side that are shaped almost like the letter C, as in "see ya later." Lane Departure and Lane Keeping Assist along with an auto high-beam will keep you safe at all times and this can come in handy if you are rockin’ out to "Radar Love."
