History of the Ford C-Max Hybrid Car

The Ford C-Max Hybrid is a compact MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) and is also referred to as a Hatchback Wagon. It was first introduced in other countries in 2003 with a gasoline engine and became available in the United States as a hybrid-only lineup in 2013.

The C-Max can comfortably seat up to 5 adults and has SUV-like seating so you don't feel as if you are riding on the ground in this little hybrid. The engine is gas powered, housed with an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission that powers this fuel efficient front-wheel drive Ford hybrid. gray 4 door c-max hybrid car parked out front of our Alpharetta dealership

The First North American Generation began in 2013 to present. The Ford C-Max replaced the Ford Escape hybrid and it offered 8 gallons more than its predecessor. The lineup consisted of the SE and SEL models and the C-Max was built to compete, and compete it did.

In 2013, the new C-Max SE offered an upscale interior made with high quality materials along with numerous standards such as Ford's SYNC, a USB port, automatic climate control, integrated blind spot mirrors, cruise control, and Bluetooth compatibility. Options included heated front seats, a panoramic roof, Sony sound system, hands-free power liftgate, leather upholstery, push-button start, navigation system, parallel park assist, a rearview camera, and much more.

The SEL offered all the options of the SE as standards except that the navigation system and power liftgate were offered as options. Other options included fog lamps, automatic wipers, auto-dimming rearview mirror, an eight-way power driver's seat with a two-way lumbar adjustment, keyless ignition/entry and heated mirrors. You could also opt for the Premium Audio and Navigation package that offered hands-free technology, front parking sensors, and an automatic parallel parking system; a panoramic roof could be had for both trims as an option.

The 2013 Ford C-Max had a 2.0L four cylinder engine that offered 141 hp and 121 lb-ft of torque. The engine worked with a lithium-ion battery pack electric motor which gave you a combined 188 hp. In an Edmunds test performance the C-Max went from zero to sixty mph in just 8.1 seconds, placing it at 2 seconds faster than competing hybrids.

In 2014, the Ford C-Max trim models remained the same and offered the same standards and options, hybrid engine and fuel economy. There were some minor adjustments to its exterior to make it more aerodynamic and sleeker looking and some minor transmission tweaks were made.

In 2015, the Ford C-Max was offered in the same trim levels. Major options for the SE trim would include a power liftgate, ambient interior lighting, MyFord Touch with a touch screen display and a navigation system with real-time traffic and weather updates.

The 2015 SEL trim could be upgraded to include a nine-speaker Sony sound system with HD radio, an enhanced power liftgate initiated by swiping your foot under the bumper, front parking sensors, a rearview camera and both trims could opt for remote start and a panoramic sunroof.

Safety features standard on both the SE and SEL models include traction and stability control, antilock disc brakes, driver-side knee airbag, full-length side curtain airbags, and front side airbags. Ford's MyKey is also standard along with 911 Assist.

The 2016 Ford C-Max was offered in the same trim levels. This year saw Ford's new SYNC 3 interface added which offered voice recognition, an 8" touch screen with fingertip swiping and pinching as with a smartphone.

The SE model continues to offer numerous standards along with a 60/40 split folding rear seat, a smartphone app integration that includes Pandora Internet radio, and numerous options to include satellite radio, the SYNC 3 interface with an 8" touch screen and a navigation system.

The 2016 SEL carries over all the bells and whistles from previous years. Both trim levels have the options of a Cold Weather package and the Cargo Management package options that include a cargo net, a soft and foldable cargo organizer, and interior protection that includes all-weather floor mats and cargo protector.

The Ford C-Max Energi is a plug-in Hybrid and it was introduced to the U.S. in 2013. It has a 2.0L four cylinder engine that offers 141 hp and 129 lb-ft of torque that works with an electric motor powered by a 7.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The battery pack in the Energi is much bigger than that of the larger Ford Fusion hybrid.

The EPA states that the C-Max Energi can offer a combined MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) of 88 miles, but once the electric range has been depleted, the Energi will go into standard hybrid mode where it will offer 38 mpg combined. The plug-in battery will take approximately 3 hours to recharge when using a 240 volt outlet and the electric-only power can get you up to 20 miles on its own at a top speed of 85 mph.

Since 2013, the Ford Energi has only been offered in the SEL trim level. It is absolutely loaded with everything you could want from an aerodynamic exterior, a leather interior with a quiet cabin and a smooth ride. The seats are designed to let you sit up high as with SUV seating so you don't feel as if you are riding on the ground.

The Ford Energi comes standard with heated mirrors, integrated blind spot mirrors, automatic wipers, fog lamps, rear parking sensors, auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless ignition and entry, an eight-way power adjustable driver's seat, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, SYNC, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, Ford's MyTouch with an 8" smartphone-like touch screen, and satellite radio.

You can opt for packages to include a foot-swipe operated enhanced power lift gate, a navigation system, automatic parallel parking, a nine-speaker Sony sound system with HD radio and a second USB port. One stand alone option is that of the panoramic fixed glass roof. The Ford Energi comes standard with the same safety features as that of the Ford C-Max Hybrid models. Another excellent safety feature of the C-Max Hybrid and Energi is that they both offer great visibility and this comes in handy for the high mileage driver who spends a lot of time on the road.
